PDC Updates So Far

The PDC, or Professional Developers Conference, is two days in and I am so jealous of all the folks that are in Los Angeles for it this week.

If you’re just now tuning in, here’s a quick recap:PDC 2008 Badge

* Monday was Cloud Computing day.  Ray Ozzie introduced Windows Azure, the operating system in the cloud, and talked about its components and how it works.  To see that keynote, click here: https://channel9.msdn.com/pdc2008/KYN01/

* Tuesday was Windows 7 day.  Steven Sinofsky showed off the new multi-touch features, UI and additional pieces of Windows 7.  There were also guest appearances from Ori Amiga, David Treadwell and of course Ray Ozzie to talk about Office Web applications, Windows Live, Mesh, and more.  To see that keynote, click here: http://wm.istreamplanet.com/customers/ms/750_ms_pdc_081028.asx

* Today (Wednesday), the Keynote is going to be given by Rick Rashid, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President of Microsoft Research.  The Research group is always doing really interesting things, and I’ve heard nothing about this keynote yet, so it should be full of surprises.  You should be able to watch that live starting at 3:30pm GMT here: http://microsoftpdc.com/Default.aspx

A cool thing that they’ve been doing is broadcasting twitter streams.  So as you’re watching the keynote in the Silverlight viewer, you can click on the “Twitter” text and see the stream of comments from people live-twittering the event.

For more videos, channel9 has the goods.  There are interviews with Ray Ozzie, David Treadwell, discussions with product groups and updates on news and events.  https://channel9.msdn.com/ has everything; click “Media” to see video interviews, and click “Recent” to see the very latest updates.

One other source for great PDC content is the blog http://www.istartedsomething.com  Long Zheng has posted things like screen shots of Windows 7, keynote liveblogging (very interesting and entertaining), as well as stuff like official PDC Wallpaper.
