Silverlight on Linux: Big News from the XML 2007 Conference

Miguel de Icaza demoed the Moonlight project at the XML 2007 Conference in Boston this week!  He said the first version (Moonlight 1.0) would be released within six months.  Moonlight 2.0 is expected to ship six-twelve months after Silverlight 2.0 ships.

Moonlight, if you've never heard of it, is the joint venture project between Novell and Microsoft to create a Linux implementation of Silverlight.  The project was announced earlier this year.  Moonlight 1.0 is based on Silverlight 1.0.  Moonlight 2.0 is based on Silverlight 2.0 and built on top of Mono, the Linux-based .Net implementation.  Novell has agreed to make Moonlight 100% compatible with Silverlight.  They also are promising to support Moonlight for all major Linux platforms as well as the Firefox, Konqueror & Opera browsers.

The project page is here: http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight.  You can find more information about the status of Moonlight there, as well as how to get started with the current version and information about the various pieces of the implementation.
