Want to build a Private Cloud? Here's how

This blog post is the first installment of what promises to be an excellent series of articles on building a Microsoft based Private Cloud.

Starting with the National Institute of Standards and industry accepted definition of Public and Private clouds the author goes on to cover the five essential characteristics, three service models and four deployment models of clouds.

Characteristics

  • On-demand self-service
  • Broad network access
  • Resource pooling
  • Rapid elasticity
  • Measured service

Service Models

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Software as a Service (SaaS)
  • Platform as a Service (PaaS)

Deployment Models

  • Private Cloud
  • Community Cloud
  • Public Cloud
  • Hybrid Cloud

He then goes on to describe how you can build your own private cloud in order to gain many of the advantages provided by public clouds, but to do so in your own data center.  Absolutely worth reading and a series that you should definitely follow.
