The programs and features screen comes up white and crashes hundreds of times. How can I uninstall a different way?

  2. User #452624421672929 says:

Thanks! IE9 didnt work. Anytime I clicked, it would have a thing that popped up say "Internet explorer has stopped working."

  3. As mentioned in the keynote on Wednesday, 75% of Internet Explorer crashes are caused by buggy browser add-ons.

To determine if a buggy addon is causing your crash,

1.Start IE in No Add-ons mode, either by right-clicking the Desktop icon, or clicking START | RUN and typing: iexplore.exe -extoff

    2.Determine if IE fails.

3.If not, use Tools | Manage Add-ons to disable all browser extensions and toolbars.

4.Restart IE and reenable browser extensions one-by-one.

5.Once you've found a broken extension, contact the manufacturer and ask for an update.

If that doesn't help, it's possible that there's a problem with your graphics card driver. You might want to ensure that you have the latest drivers for your graphics card, and if that doesn't help, try starting the Internet Options Panel from the system control panel. On the Advanced Tab, tick the "Use Software Rendering instead of GPU rendering" option at the top.

    thanks!

My IE9 install crashed without completing but update KB982861 was downloaded and installed in the background by Windows 7 by the time I came to reboot so now I cant uninstall IE9 from the menu as above it says, 'An error has occurred not all the updates were successfully uninstalled' and as 982861 was installed I cant re-run the setup as it says, 'KB982861 is already installed on this computer'!

We need an 'Internet Explorer 9 Bete Removal Tool' from Microsoft URGENTLY please!

Also if you could browse to the KB article and then download the update manually maybe then it could be installed and uninstalled then I could re-run IE9 as its working fine on my home PC and laptop.

  5. Capt.Jack Sparrow says:

Try resetting the IE to default settings. Tools | Internet Options | Advance | Reset then re-open the browser.

  6. Vaibhav Garg says:

I was looking forward to using the new version of the internet explorer with a great enthusiasm. However, on my windows 7 x64 box, IE9 doesn't work at all. I can use the one default tab all i wish, but as soon as I open a new tab using ctrl-T, or middle click on a link or however, the browser stops reponding. I can not close it anymore, neither can i switch tabs, or interact with the options etc.

I have tried resetting the settings, and running the browser with the -extoff switch, but to no avail. This behaviour is identical across the 64 bit and the 32 bit version. Can you direct me to a suitable remedy?

The double whammy is that now, on uninstall, even IE8 exhibits the same behaviour.

  7. Akash says:

I am using Win2k8 R2 and updated to IE9 beta version, not able to identify this update in add remove program, how should i uninstall IE9?

  8. Graham Plowright says:

This I.E.Beta wont work on Santander online banking !!! Thanks for the help getting it removed.

  9. EricLaw [MSFT] says:

@Graham: What's the URL? Did you try pushing the "Compatibility View" button?

  10. Wink360 says:

Anywhere else this can be done?  Somehow my section for "Microsoft Windows" is missing from the "Uninstall an update" page.  I have even had our Ops team check and they are not sure.  I see plenty of other updates that can be uninstalled for Adobe, Visual Studio, etc but no section for Microsoft Windows and no IE 9 under any section that does show up.

  11. Devendra says:

Thankx IE 9 was crashing indefinately. Now atleast restored oldr one.

  12. EricLaw [MSFT] says:

@Devendra: If IE is "crashing indefinitely" you should follow the steps above (see "19 Sep 2010 8:53 AM") to disable the crashing browser add-on.

  13. Fred says:

IE 9 does not appear in "View Installed Updates"  what now?

  14. William says:

    Hi,

My control panel crashes.  Is there another way to uninstall ie 9?  Yes, my explorer is crashing as well.

    Thanks

  15. William says:

    Hi,

I went into safe mode and uninstalled Google toolbars and now ie 9 and explorer works.  I had disabled all toolbars previously

but that had not fixed the problem.

    Thanks

  16. @EricLaw, THANK YOU!  I saw your comment and THIS SOLVED MY PROBLEM!  My Lenovo T400 laptop, I was having issues with the IE 9 beta CRASHING ALL THE TIME!  I wasw so frustrated.  I wanted to throw it out the window and now this is what I am using and typing on.  THANK YOU!

Internet Options Panel from the system control panel. On the Advanced Tab, tick the "Use Software Rendering instead of GPU rendering" option at the top.

    Solved it for me!

  17. @MLCarter1976: You may be able to re-enable hardware acceleration after installing the latest drivers for your graphics card, which you can usually get from the graphics-card vendor's website. Would you mind telling me what graphics card you have?  thanks!

  18. Laura says:

Tried the steps above however I am getting an error "An error has occurred. Not all updates were successfully uninstalled"

    Can someone please help?

  19. henk says:

IE 9 beta works fine, no problem. But now I want to uninstall it, BUT: when I want to uninstall the update, it brings a pop-up with the text:

'Please wait while the updates are being uninstalled. This might take several minutes.'

….but the bar under this text is NOT filling. Nada, nop. Just doing nothing. I can press 'cancel' though, but nothing else happens!

    Windows 7

  20. Melissa says:

Thank You very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anytime I clicked Internet Explorer a box would pop up every 5 seconds saying Internet Explorer has stopped working .

  21. @Melissa: 75% of Internet Explorer crashes are caused by buggy browser add-ons.

To determine if a buggy addon is causing your crash,

1.Start IE in No Add-ons mode, either by right-clicking the Desktop icon, or clicking START | RUN and typing: iexplore.exe -extoff

  22. chantal says:

    Tkx a bunch. I finally removed ie9, but why I can't download ie8 back?

  23. @chantal: When you uninstall IE9, whatever version of IE you had previously is restored automatically. If that was IE8 (because, for instance, you were on Windows 7 which comes with IE8) then you've already got IE8 installed.

  24. Erica says:

IE9 is NOT showing up in my "installed updates," is there any other way to uninstall it?

  25. dl says:

It doesn't even show up in the programs menu?

    So what now?

  26. EricLaw [MSFT] says:

@dl: It won't ever show up in "the programs menu." Look in the "Installed Updates" list, as directed by the post above. Thanks.

  27. Ayman says:

"Windows Internet Explorer 9" or any similar name doesn't appear in "View installed updates". Please tell me if there is another way to uninstall.

  28. Klimax says:

@Ayman: If you are on Windows 7, there is no such thing as uninstall. Maybe it can be deactivated, but core parts are permanent, as they are used by 3rd party software, by help, in some parts of Control panel and possibly some futher places.

  29. Klimax says:

Looking at earlier post by EricLaw, seems I misremembered about included version.
