Here comes another bubble

I suppose that when you are young, the Billy Joel song is so uncool that it’s cool again. To me, it’s just uncool. But the video is funny.

Did you know about the drama behind the pictures used in the video? I first heard about it at <a href="">Burningbird</a&gt;…it just goes and goes from there.

Oh yeah, I was kinda funny.  🙂

Last August I made a trip to Seattle and had to stop in at my broker’s office. Well, he’s not really *my* broker, he’s just the broker who was responsible for my previous company’s IPO. I had a bunch of pre-IPO shares sitting in the account for the past 8 years.

Apparently, they won’t hold on to accounts that fall below a certain level, so all those pre-IPO price shares are so far underwater that Jacques Cousteau is expected to come back to life to lead an expedition to recover the worthless slips of paper back to the surface. My broker contacted me to inform me that they were liquidating my account, and where can they send the check. 200 bucks! Woohoo! I would have enjoyed the tax writeoff, but since I don’t pay any taxes (don’t make enough) because I live in Japan, I don’t even get to see that payback.

Anyway, I totally sympathize with this guy’s experience in the first dot-com bubble. All these shares and not worth a dime… It’s okay, though. This time it’s not really a bubble at all. It’s a whole new paradigm, and I’ll be retired in 2 years.

Hmm, I’ve noticed some of my comments don’t make it through. Are you editing me? 🙂

Anyway, yesterday I referred you to a post over at Burningbird which is where I discovered all of the drama behind this video.
