Off to Vegas

Well, I am off to Vegas for a organization offsite. The group I am a part of right now is significantly field-based (mostly the sales and consulting recruiting teams), so they get together in exotic (OK, at least warm and sunny) locations for meetings on different things relevant to our roles (for example, the new government definition of an “applicant”). Also, it’s highly likely that there will be some events that may or may not involve karaoke (not me though, I promise!). Part of it, I think is just to get the team together a few times a year and have some fun. I’m not really a gambler so “fun” for me is about good food and soaking in some sun. Blogging will probably be light for the next few days (unless one of our topics strikes me and I just can’t wait to tell you about it). And I’ll definitely take some pictures if anything really newsworthy happens (Elvis sightings, etc.) ; )

    I love Vegas, mainly because what happens there stays there (at least the media marketing campaign says so). Have a good time!

    Were the airports busy during your trip? Does it look like lots of people are traveling on business?

    Do airports look busier than prior trips, about the same, or less busy?

    Patblue-not on a trip with about 50 HR folks ; ) If something happens there, we talk about it after.

    Nate-not any more or less than usual, I guess. Some days are heavier travel days in general (like yesterday, given it was a Friday and lots of people in town for business were heading back). But I’m not noticing any trends or anything.

    You got to be kidding me. An Offsite in Vegas?

    <Loaded Question MODE = ON>

    So the strategies that are discussed… like other things that happen in Vegas…. do they stay in Vegas???

    It’s not really meant to discuss strategies. It’s really more of an semi-annual org update. Our team is mostly field based so this is pretty much the only opportunity to get everyone in the same room.

    Incidently, any city with lots of hotel space is a likely location for an offsite. Considering that nobody wanted to go somewhere cold and icy, we were limited to the west part of the country. The fact that the airport to hotel is about 5 minutes and there are lots of things to do makes vegas ideal for this kind of thing. I could have done witout all the cigarette smoke, but other than that (which we have no control ovefr anyway), it was a perfect location.
