I am currently doing a case study at the University of Michigan.  I have been searching online for information on the marketing strategy, core competence, dynamic variables, or anything that could be used in my report.  If it is possible to receive any info from the SFDM or other contributors, then I would be very appreciative.  Also, if there is any other person or direction I should look, it would be great to know.  Thanks.

  5. I am a surgical equipment sales rep. but am not happy.  I have always been a gamer and want to enjoy what I do.  I want a job with xbox.  What do i need to do?

  6. HeatherLeigh says:

    Hi Matt,

It depends on what type of job in XBox you would be looking for. Since it appears that it would require a change, not just in the functional aspects of yor expertise (sales) but also in the industry (medical), I’d recommend making a change to another company; either into a different kind of role (for example marketing if that is what intersts you) or doing sales in something closely related to gaming.

As you would imagine, getting a position in the XBox group is pretty competitive in that we hire people with significant experience in both the games industry as well as their functional area (development, marketing, etc.). So I think the goal in your situation would be to move closer toward that experience.

    I hope that helps.

Hello, I am the President of the MBA Society at Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.  Originally from Redmond so I am a big Microsoft fan.  I am in search of some corporate sponsorship for our MBA Society.  We are involved in many great activities, last weekend our hockey team played in the Mac Arthur Cup at Harvard and won the championship in the  B-division.  Our sailing team is going to the SDA Bocconni MBA Regatta sponsored by ROLEX and BMW facing many IVEY league schools.  Currently we are the only MBA Society without a sponsor in any of the these events.  I think this would be a great opportunity for Microsoft to get some great branding.  We are not looking to score any big funds, pershaps just enough to pay for gear – in exchange for Microsoft branding on the gear.  This could be Vista, Xbox, or any other products,

Could you help me find the right person to make this pitch.

    Best Regards,

    Hi,

I’ve applied for "Customer Insights Manager" as i could sense that it was meant for candidates from India as well.

Heather, it would better for me to know that when your organization is finalizing this vacancies.

    Hoping to hear from u.

    Thanks

  10. Hess Barber says:

    Hi Heather,

I really need your help.  I am determined to work in video games marketing but have no idea how I can break into it.

I have previously worked in the games industry as an artist for about 8 years.  Following that I consulted to various companies around the world re their branding and marketing campaigns.  I have been very successful doing this and have helped earn awards and similar success to the companies I have been working with. All up I have an additional good 8+ years of "learned" marketing skills.  It just comes to me naturally but I dont have any official training in the field.  I feel I would be a great asset to any video game marketing team but dont really know who to approach or what I will need in order to be taken seriously.

Please help, it is my dream to market games as I am so passionate about them.

    Thanks,

    Hess

  11. HeatherLeigh says:

    Hi Hess,

My recommendation is to make the move into marketing inside a company that already knows and values you. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that a new company will takea risk putting you in a role you haven’t had any formal experience with. So I think that you should work at a games company as an artist and try to make the move internally. I am sure you were looking for something a little more short term, but that is the best recommendation I can give.

    Good luck!

  12. Hess Barber says:

Thankyou for that.  Do you think I should actually do a marketing course as well?  Would this greatly increase my chances or not so much?

I will have to figure out another way in, maybe as a producer or something as I’ve been out of art for too long.  It would take me a long time to be of any use to a games art team again now.  As you know the technology moves so fast, I have been left behind.

Also, I have been bitten by the marketing bug, and thats really what I excel in now..  Im just not that interested in pushing pixels anymore.  hmm..

    Regards,

    Hess

  13. HeatherLeigh says:

Hess – I am not sure. It depends on how it works at the company you are at at the time. It couldn’t hurt.

  14. Benjamin Ray says:

    Hello Heather,

My name is Ben Ray and I am a graphic design student in Houston Texas. As many people know, Houston is an industrial city built from the ground up on indusrty interest. Not much room for game development out here. However the need for Xbox360 game reps appears to be alive and well. I see this as an avenue into the gamming world and i would like to work my way up through this position. The only problem is I have yet to find a way to apply for this position. I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember and I want to make a carrer making the xbox the best platform on the market. Please if you have any information that could point me in the right direction email me at bray1028@hotmail.com or leave a post. I will check back often, any responce will be highly valued.

  15. HeatherLeigh says:

Hi Benjamin – these roles would be posted on Microsoft.com/careers if they are open. So maybe you could go there and search by keyword. I haven’t heard of "game rep" roles before. But maybe they are called Somethng else onthe careers site.

Since the XBox product group is located here, I’m not sure that there would be positions available in other US locations, but if there are, it would definitely be posted.

    God luck!
