Blogs...bringing people together

I didn't do a good job of staying in touch with my college friends post-graduation. I graduated during a recession and wasn't really sure where I was going to end up. The job market in LA was pretty tough. Anyway, I do really wish I had done a better job of staying in touch with people.

Within the last week, I've been contacted by 2 of my good friends from college with whom I had lost touch. Greg was probably my best friend freshman year and my neighbor. Last week, he contacted after he had goggled my name (as well as some other old friends, I'm sure), found my blog and told me how weird he felt sending me an e-mail out of the blue. Not weird for me at all, until he showed me a picture of his cute family (and I mean seriously cute) and I realized how much we had all grown up. I didn't have a visual before...I always imagined all of us as college students. This is reminding me that I need to stop shopping in the junior department at Nordstrom.

Today, my friend Suzey contacted me. She just moved here from NYC and was looking for online resources related to her job search...she found a link to my blog. I met Suzey through my roommates sophomore year and I recall a trip to the Grateful Dead concert we made riding in the back of a pick-up truck (what were we thinking?). This was before the Dead were kicked out of Orange County forever. Lots of fun!

Anyway, I'm mostly here because blogging is a good way for me to reach out to people who are looking for a marketing job, or in marketing, or somehow on my professional radar. But how cool is it to hear from my buddies from good old Southern Cal!
