Cool things that you find out about your co-workers

Every once in a while I find something out about my co-workers that really blows my mind. We are so busy focusing on just getting through the day, getting that project completed, getting enough done that it feels OK to go home. We don't always realize the incredible stuff that people do outside of work. And here I am daydreaming about shiny black boots...

Yesterday, Rachel Custer, one of my co-workers sent mail to our team announcing a fundraiser for KidsDream Of Snohomish County. Rachel's mom is on the board of this organization. Cool enough that Rachel and her mom are involved in this organizations supporting children's foster programs, but Rachel also shared: "Over the last 10 years our family has touched over 50 children who have come to live in my mom’s home…some for only a couple of days, some for months and one special boy Forest that is now part of my family." Rock on Rachel and mom (and family)!!!

A little bit more about the organization...

The mission of KidsDream is: To help fulfill the dreams of abused and neglected children in Snohomish County by providing them with opportunities to develop their skills, talents and self-esteem and to promote involvement by the entire community in helping children. Some of the activities and items we have funded in the past include martial arts lessons, music lessons, little league fees, prom dresses and tuxedo rentals, choir dress, summer camps, art supplies and more.

Their current fundraiser is selling 24” mixed evergreen wreaths with pine cones and juniper berries for $18.00 (anyone else just love the smell of real evergreen and pine?) Since I know a number of Microsoft employees read this blog, I thought I would let you know about this organization and this fundraiser (which is targeted locally since the wreaths need to be picked up), in the event that your front door needs a little decoration (so the home decorating addict in me also wants to let you know that wreaths make a great table centerpiece with one or a few candles placed in the middle).
