Never underestimate the power of a new pair of boots

I don't know what it is about boots, but whenever I am having a rough day, a trip to the shoe department at Nordstrom can usually cure my blues. If the boots are on sale, my euphoria can carry me though a whole tough week. We all have those days, right? The key is knowing what your happiness trigger is and pulling it quickly. For me, it's a sassy new pair of shiny black boots, thank you very much.

So is it just me, or do you also think that retailers are missing a marketing opportunity here? If they can segment the part of the market that just woke up on the wrong side of the bed and market their trigger of choice, they can make some serious revenues. For me, they would just need to post the Nordstrom shoe sale flyer right next to the vending machine to get my attention. And that would keep me away from happiness trigger #2, potato chips. And the world will be a better place.
