Uh-oh, something is amiss when parents ask about blogging

This week, each of my parents (separate households, different states) has asked me about blogging. OK, one of them referred to it as “flogging”. One wanted to know what it meant relative to Dan Rather and the other asked what I have been working on (thanks for asking, Dad).

Not that I cover any controversial topics here, but it does feel a little different knowing that one or both parents is/are looking at my blog. This is how I know blogging is going mainstream (evidently, thanks to Dan Rather). I know, it’s not scientific research, but it’s a very real indicator for me.

I fear the day when my mom has a blog and starts talking about what she had for dinner (we have whole discussions on the topic of dinner, so this could happen…I’m just warning you) or what she bought at J.Jill.

hehe, while blogging is seen generally as a "consumer" FUN thing like chat rooms, I find it a great powerful tool in the business domain like the blogs on here at MSDN, probably what alot of companies feared (having non PR staff interact with the outside world) yet its good to see it embraced in this way.

Maybe having her put recipies or good bargins found at the store is a good thing though 😛

  2. I don’t think you’re parents will find anything to fret about here. In fact, as much as they might love you, I’d be surprised if they became regular readers. It’s just too specialized. And actually, specialized or not, altho there are a lot of blogs, not too many people are likely to be interested in them.

I hope she puts recipes on a blog! She’s got some good ones!

    Well, I can’t keep quiet— ; )

Michael is correct–I may check in on your blog now and then (just like I used to check your room!) to see what you have been up to in your

    professional life.

But you can rest assured, mom will stay "out of your stuff"–except sweetie, don’t you think you should have a nice cookbook in your "What’s on my bookshelf" section?

You are eating right, taking your vitam . . .?
