More time for patients….more time for you. Optimizing efficiency in your healthcare practice

imageIt’s almost cliché to talk about “doing more with less”, but it seems everywhere we turn these days, imagethat is the message.  I don’t care whether you’re part of a multi-state, multi-hospital enterprise or you run a small two physician practice.  Today no one has the luxury of working with all the resources they need or might want.  ARRA HITECH stimulus funds aside, I don’t see anything on the horizon where folks are lining up to pay doctors and hospitals a whole lot more for what they do.  So, the only way to stay ahead of the game is to squeeze out every ounce of inefficiency in the way you run your business.

One way savvy medical practices are getting more efficient is by moving their information communication technologies (ICT) to the cloud.  What’s known as the Microsoft® Business Productivity Online Standard Suite (BPOS) is one such solution.  With BPOS you’ll get a simple and direct migration route to enhance your business communications needs—with no additional hardware or software to procure, configure, or manage, and with virtually no up-front investment. With BPOS you get all your familiar Microsoft Office applications.  You can create and store Microsoft® Word, Excel®, PowerPoint®, and OneNote® files online, then use Office Web apps to make updates from virtually any computer that has an Internet connection or on a mobile device.

imageOf course there’s nothing more important in healthcare IT than data privacy and security.   Rest assured, BPOS utilizes online services and datacenters that adhere to stringent HIPAA requirements.  These datacenters are SAS 70 Type II-, FISMA-, and ISO 27001-certified.  And, you’ll realize 99.9 percent uptime with around-the-clock, multilingual support.

imageBPOS is always-up-to-date with virtually no up-front investment.  Capital costs are minimized.  You pay as you go and can easily scale services up or down depending on what your practice requires.  You’ll be able to connect to colleagues, patients, and other constituents, almost anywhere they are.  You can host and participate in real-time online meetings, trainings, and events.  You can rapidly find and connect with people through text-based instant messaging, voice, and video.  With BPOS you get a highly available, security-enhanced alternative to public instant messaging tools with Microsoft® Office Communications Online.

If you run a medical practice, large or small, I’d suggest you take a serious look at the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite.   Here are some links to additional information that will help get you started on the migration of your business productivity applications to the cloud.

  1. Thank you,  I was not aware of this Microsoft offering.  I am always amazed at the resistance MDs exhibit toward electronic medical records, even though it is clearly beneficial to the patient.  Of course, I imagine the cost and the effort to learn something new may factory in there-

  2. I have to agree, my privacy is my utmost importance.  If my healthcare provider would like to use my information, I would agree if it would be anonymous.  But you see even the information you provide anonymously is very profitable. I kind of would want a cut if they ever sold or shared this information.
