The Privacy umbrella of cloud computing

Cloud computing and its privacy implications was the key focus in this week’s conference organised by the International Association of Privacy Professionals Australian and New Zealand (IAPPANZ).

The conference was addressed by Brendan O’Connor MP, Minister for Privacy and Freedom of Information; Timothy Pilgrim, Australian Privacy Commissioner, and Jeff Bullwinkel, Associate General Counsel for Microsoft Australia among others.

Issues covered at the conference included cross border data transfers, electronic health records, as well as the legal and regulatory environments of cloud computing.

Earlier this year Microsoft Australia released a paper its "Privacy in the Cloud Computing Era" to outline its views in this important area.

Cloud computing, in other words Internet based data storage and services, will enhance consumer experiences by allowing greater flexibility and efficiencies.

Microsoft Australia was a proud supporter of the conference.
