New calculator launched to help women assess breast cancer

New calculator to assess breast cancer

A web based calculator designed to assess a woman’s personal risk of breast cancer and their associated risk if they take Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) was officially launched last week (November 21) at the NSW Breast Cancer Institute, Westmead Hospital.

Microsoft in partnership with the Institute and Sydney West Area Health Service (SWAHS) brought together a team of talented programmers to build the online calculator using processes and prototypes designed and developed by inventors Professor John Boyages, Dr Nathan Coombs and Professor Richard Taylor. The programmers took the inventors’ method from a Microsoft® Office Excel spreadsheet and used the MS.NET framework to turn it into an easy-to-use web application.
