  2. Yep, finally.  🙂

  3. Chris says:

When might the Visual Studio 2008 examinations start coming out?

  4. says:

When is the Mojave beta coming out? 🙂

  5. Augusto says:

Has anyone tried to register ? In my case the promotional code doesn’t work.

  6. Andreas says:

I tried to register on the prometric website:

Exam Name: TS: MS .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Applications Dev

    Client/Exam Number: Microsoft 071-505

When I enter the promotion code I get the message

"Discount is not offered for this Client." I’m in the UK.

  7. Augusto says:

Ouch! I realize it now, the registratione begins today. Sorry, I will try in the following days.

  8. Andy Mackie says:

Promotional code not working for me either. As registration begins today, I’d expect it to be working today.

  9. Bruno says:

In my case the promotional code doesn’t work too. Has anyone achieved to register?

  10. Hi Chris,

Which exams are you looking for?  Most of the Visual Studio 2008 exams are now live with a couple of the Pro exams in beta.

  11. Hi Amit,

Can you be more specific as to what you are looking for please?

  12. For all regarding the promo code, please remember the date that registration opens and allow time for the systems to propogate the information.

  13. S.Y. Paul Lai says:

"allow time for the systems to propogate…"  That’s 2008-11-21 23:05 night time in Hong Kong, and the promotion code is still not working.  That’s time zone difference, right?

"Beta exam period runs: November 25, 2008– December 15, 2008"

Is it US time?  If I successfully register the exam at Hong Kong on NOV 25, 2008, will the exam start for me?  Or, do I need to "allow time for the systems to propogate" at the test center on that date?

  14. Sorry Paul, it may be too early in the morning for me here but your post makes absolutely no sense to me.

Registration starts on the date indicated in the invitation, November 21, 2008.  That should equate to local times.

If you successfully register for the exam on Nov. 25, 2008, it will not start for you.  You will have to visit the testing center on he date you registered the exam for.

  15. S.Y. Paul Lai says:

You still don’t understand what I mean.  Now, it is already 2008-11-22 in Hong Kong.  I still can’t use the promotion code to register the exam.

Let me tell you a story. 3 years ago, I registered the SQL 2005 beta exams at the first date when they were available.  I visited the test center at the correct time, but the exam system couldn’t start.  The reason is obvious that there is an time zone difference.  The contraints somewhere in the exam system didn’t use the local time.  The registration system allowed me to select the first date of the beta exam period, but the exam engine had an additional hidden constraint.  The test center needed to call Prometric supports to make new appointments for me, and I wasted the day.  The promotion code problem now make me afraid that such bug is not fixed after 3 years.

  16. says:

I saw 71-505 listed last night (around 11:00 pm Pacific Time) itself in Prometric site and tried to register but got the error message ‘Discount is not offered for this Client.’ when I entered the promo code.

I tried again today and got the same message.

I called Prometric and was told to contact Microsoft to validate the promo code.

  17. Now that explanation is much clearer than the first one.

I’m also sorry to say that I don’t control Prometric and they are the ones responsible for fixing their bugs in the system.

I tell them when I want my exams to be available for registration based on a date.  I expect that date to be converted correctly by them based on differing time zones.

If there are issues where these dates are not being met, then I need to know that so I can communicate these issues to them.  I am unable to effect change immediately however.

  18. John Fly says:

I’ve contacted Prometric who directed me to MCP support, from there they told me to call ITAcademy then from there TechNet Support..

After 1.5 hours on the phone I received the answer "Wait until later today."

  19. Working on it folks.

  20. John Fly says:

Thanks for looking into this for all of us.

  21. says:

    Thanks Gerry!

I am able to register now!

  22. John Fly says:

I finally was able to register.

    Many thanks to Gerry!

  23. S.Y. Paul Lai says:

    Thank you Gerry!

I registered the exam today and scheduled it to start on the first available date, 25 NOV.  (no confusion now?)  I hope the exam can be started at the correct time.

I don’t know the details behind the exam engine.  3 years ago, the Prometric support told me that Prometric exam delivery program needed to get the exam contents from Microsoft.  It was the content source service at Microsoft having the time constraint which caused the problem.

  24. Hey Paul,

I will contact Prometric and ensure that when you arrive, the exam is NOT ready to start.  🙂

There are many different aspects to a beta exam hand-off however, I won’t go into which side the issue is on, as I’m sure you can understand.

  25. S.Y. Paul Lai says:

    The exam started normally.

Now is the time to wait….

  26. Daniel says:

    Hi there

Has anyone been able to register for this exam in December? The local test centres only had slots available this week and I’m tied up with work commitments so I can’t sit it now. I was wondering if Prometric have possibly entered the availability incorrectly. I do understand there may just be no 4 hour slots left.

  27. says:

    Hi Daniel,

I was able to register for the test to be taken on 12/14/2008. I am in Southern California.

Try calling Prometric; may be it is something to do with your test center.

    Good Luck,

  28. Joe Suchy says:

I just registered today and scheduled to take it on the last day it was available locally, 12/12 at noon.  The promo code worked and everything seemed fine.  Since I just passed the 2.0 version, I am hoping to focuse on just 3.5 "stuff" and pass it again.  I certainly appreciate the chance to take it for free!

  29. For those who have posted some comments about their exam experience, you may be wondering why the posts are not displayed here.

Basically, if I post your comments, you will violate the NDA that you agreed to when taking the exam.

Please remember, the contents of the exam are NOT to be discussed after you have completed the exam.  You will violate the NDA and could lose your certification as a result.

  30. Daniel says:

Thanks for taking the time to comment TitusT.

Looks like there was a cancellation as I’ve managed to get a booking for a local(ish) test centre on Friday.

  31. PapaYaw says:
