Cloud side chat: Microsoft Online Services and the evolving world of software + services
Tuesday, December 01, 2009 8:00 AM, Online
Software-plus-Services is the next logical step in the evolution of computing. It represents an industry shift toward software design that is neither exclusively PC nor browser-centric and blends traditional client-server architecture with cloud-based software delivery. Microsoft Online Services is at the center of that evolution, delivering communication and collaboration software services, hosted and managed by Microsoft.
Join Bharat Shah, General Manager of Engineering for Microsoft Online Services, for a fireside chat with the Microsoft Insiders. Bharat leads the engineering teams that are delivering the Business Productivity Online Suite, which includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Office Communications Online, and Live Meeting. Bharat will take your questions and talk about how Microsoft engineering is tackling the challenges of delivering highly available, enterprise software services for organizations around the world and how cloud computing and software-plus-services is changing the way Microsoft thinks about software.

Hampton Roads .NET Users Group
Tuesday, December 08, 2009 6:00 PM, Chesapeake, VA
Consider if you will, an ASP 3.0 to SharePoint/MOSS Enterprise Content Management migration project which used many of the technologies available in the stack: Publishing features, Business Data Catalog, Single Sign-On, custom SharePoint lists/document libraries, custom web parts, custom site branding, custom site metadata, and many other “enterprisey” whiz-bang gizmos. Now imagine that after many burned clock ticks of active development, barely a scratch was made in the feature set. This discussion will explore how a simplification of the software architecture and engineering processes allowed the project to achieve an unprecedented 24x gain in productivity while generating a successful end solution which is maintainable, scalable, and manageable.
