Building a Data Driven App in Silverlight 3

This session will be an overview of the different technologies that can be used to create a Data Driven application with Silverlight 3. Van will start by creating a simple Silverlight 3 app using a local object. He will then, through several demonstrations, migrate this simple app to an n-tier app using ASMX web services, WCF web services, LINQ, ADO.NET Entity Framework, and ADO.NET Data Services. He will finish up with the app using .Net RIA Services.

CMAP October Meeting-Moving Your App to Silverlight by John Baird

Location: HCC Business Training Center.
In this presentation, we will take a look at the basics of Silverlight and how to put it all together to create an application. We will look at the Silverlight controls and layout, blend, navigation, data handling and communication including web services and the entity framework. We will finish with a brief look at styling and theming.
John Baird began his computer programming career while in the US Navy. In 1982, he helped form and direct the first PC-based computer processing department for training and manpower in the Department of Defense. After leaving the military in 1988, John began a varied career as a consultant developing business applications ranging from computer-based training to vertical market software for resellers. Today, John is working for the industry leader in financial software for fund administration. John was recently awarded MVP status for device application development.

Bending the Scaffold
Extending and Customizing ASP.NET Dynamic Data . by MATTHEW SPOSATO.
In the first ten minutes of this presentation I build a Dynamic Data website based on a LINQ to SQL data model. Then the fun begins. I demonstrate transforming the scaffolding into a more user-centric website that could useful for reporting, maintaining lookup data or perhaps as a “bridge” application.
