  • Frederick .NET Monthly Meeting
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 6:30 PM, Frederick, MD
At the meeting, we’ll be mixing things up a bit. Instead of our traditional speaker talks, we’ll be opting for a more hands-on experience by inviting folks to bring their laptops and Visual Studio (VS 2005 minimum) and trying a simple coding challenge based upon the Boulders contest. Don’t worry if you don’t have access to a laptop or Visual Studio, you can still pair with someone to complete the challenge. Or, if you don’t want to participate in the challenge, come on out just to see how the Bot Bash works! There is not a huge amount of coding required, just a logical mindset and a strong drive to squash the competition. The winner(s) will have the opportunity to choose from some great swag afterwards. We'll start around 6:30 PM with code Bot. Then, do the round one competition during the pizza. Following the pizza, we’ll spend 30 minutes improving algorithms and then finish with the final competition. We’ll then wrap-up everything around 8:30 PM with the raffle. Again, even if you don’t want to code in the challenge, there will plenty of giveaways, pizza and fun! Please join us and get involved in our .NET developers community!

    Naked JavaScript

During this talk, Chris will present a fairly deep technical overview of this amazing little language, including some of the newest features that make it one of the fastest performing semi-object oriented, semi-functional programming languages. We will also survey some of the most interesting projects that use JavaScript to fundamentally alter the world of programming including Nitobi PhoneGap, Joyent Smart Platform, Apache CouchDB, 280 North Cappuccino, and V8-GL. Come with an open-mind and leave much of what you think is JavaScript at the door, because we are taking it off the DOM.
