Mid-Atlantic MSDN Roadshow - Silverlight

Next week, we're kicking off a new event series here in Mid-Atlantic called the MSDN Roadshow. Those of you from the New England area are probably familiar with this format from my colleagues Chris Bowen and Bob Familiar, and their Bob & Chris' MSDN Roadshow.

Well, now the roadshow comes to Mid-Atlantic, courtesy of myself and my colleagues Zhiming Xue (aka Dr. Z) and Dani Diaz. Here's the agenda:

Agenda

8:00 - 9:00am  Arrival and Welcome
9:00 - 10:15 Building Rich Interactive Applications with Microsoft Silverlight

Here are the descriptions for the sessions we'll be presenting this quarter:

Building Rich Interactive Applications with Microsoft Silverlight

Silverlight is Microsoft's solution for delivering rich, cross-platform interactive experiences for the Web and beyond. Silverlight will enable the creation of rich, visually stunning and interactive content and applications that run on multiple browsers and operating systems.

In this session, you will learn:

· what Silverlight v1.0 and v1.1 is and what its key components are

· how to create a Silverlight application with Visual Studio .NET 2008

· how to enrich user experiences with XAML and JavaScript

· how to incorporate web service data and media into Silverlight applications

· how to deploy a Silverlight application to the web

Delivering Rich Web Experiences Using Microsoft Expression Studio

Microsoft Expression Studio consists of four professional design tools: Design for graphics, Web for site creation, Blend for animation, and Media for digital asset management. Whether you are designing rich standards-based web sites, creating ultimate experiences on the desktop, or managing digital assets and content, Expression Studio gives you the flexibility and freedom to bring your vision to reality. With Media Encoder, you can encode, enhance and publish rich media experiences to Microsoft Silverlight.

In this session, you will learn:

· how to use Microsoft Expression Studio to improve the end-user experience

· ho to build dynamic, interactive pages with sophisticated CSS styles

· how to create and edit vector-based drawings and export them to JPEG, PNG, GIF, bitmap and XAML code

· how to manage and search your digital assets

· how to encode and publish videos to Silverlight applications

One thing to note...if you like these kinds of events and want to see more of them in your area, the best way to make that possible is to help us blow the doors off our registration and attendance numbers. The more demand we get, the easier it is for us to get more events scheduled in a given area. So tell your friends, and tell your families...well, at least if they're developers or designers who want to learn about the coolest thing to hit the web since...well, OK, a new cool thing hits the web about every 30 seconds these days, but you all know Silverlight is awesomely cool...so I just know I'll see you at one of the events.
