First round of Blu-ray Players will not support commercial video playback?

There has been a lot of talk this week about the first generation blu-ray drives.  Apparently they will not be capable of supporting the content protection scheme which renders them incapable of playing back commercial video content (people will still be able to burn their own movies and play those back).

Sheesh, this sounds pretty bad for blu-ray.  I hope that Sony axes the whole program so that we can move off from the format wars and move forward to having a standard HD format.

Sheesh, for $1400 you'd think it could at least play back hi def movies...

Can you use the first round of HD-DVD drives to play back commercial HD-DVD video on Windows XP?

Yes, as best I know, first generation PC HD-DVD drives can play back HD-DVD films.
