New Release of the DSL Tools for Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1

I'm very happy to announce that we've just shipped a new release of the DSL Tools. You can download it here.
This time we've included matching versions of the walkthrough documents and a December to March migration document in the download. There is also an updated known issues list.

(These links might still be propagating through our web publishing system, so if one or other doesn't seem to have March dated content then check back in an hour or two).

There are two main areas of improvement in this release

  • A chunk of bug fixing
  • A set of validations for the Designer Definition (DD) model.

We heard loudly and clearly the pain from our community around making the correct edits in the (currently very cryptic) DD file to match changes in the domain model.

In this release, whenever you generate any code you'll see errors in the task list for many categories of problem with DD files and also with DMD files when used in the context of a DD file. We think that this will help people a lot as they get to grips with the relationship between our two models.

Please let me know how you get on with this validation system as we're soon going to be designing the way we'll open up the model validation technology as part of the DSL Tools for you to use on your own domain models and DSLs.  I'd really like to have that feedback as input to the design process.

Enjoy the new release.
