The New Computer – Dell Latitude D830

I got my new laptop the other day.

It's a Dell Latitude D830

Dell Latitude D830

The reviews are positive :

It has the best Windows Experience Index of all the machines I have had so far, which isn't saying much really,

I am pretty happy with this little fella, but I do miss my tablet.

interestingly enough my MacBook Pro 2.4 Core2Duo offers slightly higher figures under Vista:

    5.3/ 4.8/ 5.9/ 5.4/ 5.2 respectivly

I think alot of the performance in day to day use is down to the quality of the hardware drivers.

  2. U can has my Toshiba M400 anydays

    Ouch… only 3.1

My M90 is 4.7 (5.9 on the graphics, RAM drags it down to 4.7)

    Hi Frank,

I can’t believe you gave up a Tablet. I don’t think I can go back!

  5. I like D830’s performance but what I dislike is size and weight.

    But you can’t have everything.

    Tablet is cool too :>

thanks everyone for making me feel totally inadequate

  7. Frank, after having to drag mine around Perth from interview to interview (job hunting) i can now say that i’d swap mine with yours any day!

my beast is the XPS M1710 and it comes in at around 4.9kg on the laptop alone. It has a massive screen’s off the charts in performance but lifting the bugger shows that i’s more of a desktop replacement than a mobile PC.

i’ve been thinking of getting a smaller M1710 as well…though that’ll have to wait a bit since this one cost me near enough to $4.500 to put a dent into my savings..

good choice on the D830! i would have gone for the smaller M1710 though.

It’s good to see that you’ve finally moved into the 21st century with your hardware 🙂

mate…  any PC that ships with the right drivers is a find…

Took me over 5 months to get my MSI L745 running vista 64 bit… Ultra… and guess what…  now the keyboard sticks…   grrrr…

you can change up the graphics and really start to see some cool stuff in the platform…  particularly if you are caching graphics off blogs…

I’ve been running Windows Vista SP1 on my different work machines for a while and it has been really
