No, I will not fix your computer, but someone else might

This is one of my favourite t-shirts, which I got from my favourite online retailer. I've started wearing it to all my social get togethers recently.

It's not that I don't want to help my friends and family. I am happy to do so, but there is so much stuff to know about these days, which means I end up doing tech support while everyone else gets to eat, talk, and have fun.

And I am sure that's the case for most folks who are in the IT industry.  

That's why we're seeing a  new industry growing around home networking services.

In the US it's companies like Geek Squad who have pionered this kind of service, and here in Australia there are a bunch of them, such as Gizmo who "is a new Aussie technical support company serious about making technology fun and simple ". As their motto reads, they've "read the manuals!"

So, thank you Gizmo and others like you for saving my weekends.

    Sun Microsystems sent me one unsolicited with the won’t fix slogan and a image of "Inside Jack", their hipster spokesman.

  2. I’ve got the same(I think the font is a little different). I won it on a Microsoft developer event here in Germany. Whenever I wear that at IT events, people read it and say "hey, I need that, too!" :). So it’s even useful to start conversations with new people. Unfortunately, it did not decrease the number of help requests I get from friends+family… 🙂
