You can ask questions about the tool in http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn and then go to the SQL Server Tools|General Group.

Lee, I installed Sql server management studio express edition after I installed sql server 2005 and it works just fine. The management studio when started, automatically picked up the only running server on my laptop and showed me all the objects. it’s awesome!

I installed SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition and it was able to connect to the local sqlexpress and other sql2k servers as well. I was able to import a database from sql2k to sql2005 without a hitch. I was able to create a new database as well. The only problem is, when I try to create a new table, I get an error of "Class not registered. Looking for object with CLSID: {E09EE6AC-FEF0-41AE-9F77-3C394DA49849}." Although, I can create tables using query. it would be much much simpler using GUI specially to newbies.

When is the SQL Server Management Studio Express going to be completed? It’s a great product that, until it loses the CTP status, I won’t be using.

  6. euanga says:

    Ben,

We are waiting on feedback before releasing, so its going to be next year before it RTMs. remember this is somewhat different from previous CTPs, SSMS-E uses the RTM Frameworks and the RTM SSMS as its foundation, only the "E" part is really CTP.

I also installed "SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition" and had "nothing" happen when I attempted to run it. It works fine on my home desktop, but not at all on my work machine, no splash screen, error message, nothing.

Ahh well, it is only a CTP. Looks good though.

I also get this error "Class not registered. Looking for object with CLSID: {E09EE6AC-FEF0-41AE-9F77-3C394DA49849}." on Windows server 2003 when trying to open or modify a table w/ the design mode. I can see its content w/ the "select * from" query though.
