Technology Areas covered by my team this year
These are exciting times - lots of new technologies which will be useful to UK ISVs. The following is a list of just how broad our remit is right now - and in case you were wondering. We are a team of.... 8 :-)
- Visual Studio 2008 – great new development environment which can build .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 applications and can even sit side by side with Visual Studio 2005
- .NET Framework 3.0 on the server – building applications using Windows Communication Foundation and Workflow Foundation
- .NET Framework 3.5 on the client and server – including WPF, AJAX support and an entirely new data access model in LINQ
- IIS 7.0 – which adds significantly improved support for extending IIS with managed code and improves on deployment and manageability
- Windows Server 2008 – which is the ship vehicle for IIS7.0, MSMQ4.0, Windows Process Activation Service (WPAS), Transaction File System and many more
- SQL Server 2008 – which adds many new capabilities including supporting storage of data on the file system, spatial data and a new synchronization framework
- Rich Internet Applications – which take advantage of Silverlight, Silverlight Streaming and AJAX
- Windows Vista – clients applications which take advantage of Windows Presentation Foundation and technologies such as SideBar, SideShow and RSS
- Dynamics CRM “Titan” and AX 5.0 – each represent significant value to an ISV
- Office System – including Open XML, Office Live, Office Sharepoint Server for content management and VSTO 2008 for building extensions to Word, Excel etc.
