Word of the day – Humorish

  1. Having the shape or form of humor without actually being funny.

I coined it this morning at breakfast. I said something that wasn't funny (to my daughter or wife), though it was in the form of a joke.

To be contrasted with

  1. Characterized by humor; funny, comical

  2. The upper bone in your arm

Actually, the upper bone in the arm is the "humerus".

    Or were you being humorish?

  2. James Curran says:

Last year, there was a TV movie on about "Mork & Mindy" (the second in what’s now up to three "Behind the Laughter" TV-movies about 70’s sitcoms). In it, as one point the show’s writers talked about "CLS" — "Comedy-Like Substance" (*), ie, a line that would get a laugh, even though is wasn’t actually funny.

(*) I’m blanking a bit on the name; it might have ben "HLS" – "Humor-like substance".
