Memories of Youth

I remember the hot summer days of my youth. Our backyard patio had ants. I had a 5” magnifying glass. You can guess the rest.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the power of focused sunlight, though I never took it as far as the creators of Melt Man did.

Reading Jeremy’s post on his Fresnel Lens makes me pine for those days.

  1. I’m in a similar situation for love of focused sunlight.

I want to go visit one of Boeing’s "solar power towers" at some point:

I love powerful, yet simple ideas like that

"Let’s take the sun, focus its rays into some regular old salt until it heats up and melts, and let the salt hold the heat and bleed it off as we need it for generating power the old-fashioned steam/turbine way"

I could stand up on a surrounding mountain and take pictures all day. Man they look slick.
