From Jan Gray's blog (Jan is another
of the Perp team members), a new release of the CLR
. This tool, which used to be known as the "Allocation Profiler", was
written by Peter Sollich, who also happened to be a member of the C# design team for
a while.

This tool is pretty neat. It instantly allowed me to see what parts of our application was hogging memory. No, not instantly. It took the better part of the day to generate the 2.3 GB of log 🙂

Is there a place to submit bug reports and suggestions for future improvements?

It seems like it can only profile the very first application run – making it hard to work with e.g. web services called by your app when they are on the same machine etc..

And on my system, it seems that the histogram by age view is broken, as it causes a System.FormatException no matter what I try it on.

But otherwise, a great addition to the performance tuning toolkit!

I’d suggest adding a comment to the entry on Jan’s blog.

Please continue to update this tool. I am still learning how to read and understand the data, but I do hope to improve my software. It helps to "see" what is actually going on with my programs. Very helpful!!
