Oren's Bio

My name is Oren Winter and I am the software development manager in the Windows Embedded Standard team. Since I joined Microsoft in September of 2002 I worked on Embedded, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (Server Core specifically). I’ve been involved in Embedded and OS componentization since the beginning of my career at Microsoft and over the last 3 years I have been serving in my current role as the development manager of the team. My team (about 20 full-time Microsoft employees in Redmond + contractors and vendors in Redmond and China) design and write the code to make Windows Embedded Standard products across our 3 main feature areas: OS Componentization (where we take features from the OS and fit them for an embedded platform), Embedded Enabling Features (or EEFs – runtime embedded features specifically tailored for our unique embedded segments) and Embedded tools (the same tools that allow our customers to build Windows Embedded images for their devices, deploy them, service them etc.).This is the best job I have ever had!

Before joining Microsoft I worked in several small start-up companies mainly on Windows Internals features including drivers and other low-level components (though I’ve done some UI…) I am originally from Israel, where I grew up and went to school. I am married to Dafna and have 2 beautiful kids – Lia (3 years old) and Yoad (1.5).
