Imagine Year 2008!

While Year 2008 is just around the corner and we are counting down the final hours or minutes to the end of Year 2007, the Imagine Cup 2008 clock is also ticking: 31 days left for its first round competition by Feb 1, 2008. The finals will be in Paris this July.

As the World’s Premier Student Technology Competition, Imagine Cup is “one way Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world – today. Now in its sixth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a truly global competition focused on finding solutions to real world issues.”

The theme of this year is: The Environment – one of my favorite topics. It’ll be really fascinating to see how those smart students leverage Microsoft technology to tackle environmental issues and change the world.

There are several competition categories such as traditional Software Design or Game Development. Embedded Development entered the Imagine Cup family last year. This year, led by the Embedded Captain Scott our Senior Marketing Manager, it sure will be even more fun.

“This competition challenges you to go beyond the desktop, challenge your creativity, and to build a complete hardware and software solution using Windows CE and the hardware provided. Create a team of 2-4 competitors, with a faculty mentor, to build a working prototype of a device that will help the world. Compete against students from around the world while demonstrating your ability to be truly innovative. Like former winners, you could use your ideas to start your own company, or you could leverage this experience to jumpstart you into your future career.”

Sadly, we don’t see Windows XP Embedded there. But wait, we are working on it.

You can find more info on its website here. They even have active forums discussion.

Happy New Year of 2008! Revive your Imagination!
