Sneak Peek -Windows Media Player 10 is available for XPe!

For those who are "chomping at the bit", here is a sneak peek at the componentized version of Windows Media Player 10 - although the web page is still currently hidden on the download site, the components can be downloaded from here. These are the final release bits. The self-installing executable package contains the following updated components:

  • DirectShow ASF/DMO
  • Windows Media Player 6.4
  • Windows Media Player 10 Playlist
  • Windows Media Player 10 Skins
  • Windows Media Player 10
  • Windows Media Player 10 Technologies
  • Windows Media Player 8.0 Technologies (this has been End-of-Life'd)

In addition to the core components there is also a separate package that can be downloaded for MUI (it contains the 23 different MUI language packs for Windows Media Player 10). The release notes can be downloaded from here. Windows Media Player 10 is only supported on SP2 databases.

Note - Windows Media Player 10 will supersede any previous versions of Windows Media Player, so adding this component to your database will prompt you to upgrade your Media Player components when you open a configuration that contains Windows Media Player 6.4, 8.0 or 9.0. In order to continue building images that contain any of the previous versions simply ignore the upgrade prompt, check dependencies (if necessary) and build the image.
