redirecting stderr to stdout on the command line

2>&1 is how you redirect stderr to stdout on the command line in windows, when I inevitably have to do this again sometime, maybe this will help me remember.  :)  [ XP redirection docs , technet docs ]

  1. Note that order of redirects is important:

    2>&1 1>filename

    not equals

    cacls qqq 2>&1 1>filename

    Example:

    cacls qqq 2>&1 1>filename

    cacls qqq 1>filename 2>&1
