Today Microsoft introduced Outlook.com, a new personal email service that reimagines the way that people use email – from a cleaner look, to fewer and less obtrusive ads, to new connections to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
If you wish to use the newly launched outlook.com mail service and wish to upgrade your current hotmail/live ID then you need to upgrade your mailbox.
In this blog post I will cover the following:
- Activating the Outlook.com Email Service
- Adding an Outlook.com Alias
- Making your new Outlook.com Alias your Primary Outbound Email ID
Activating the Outlook.com Email Service
- Go to: http://www.live.co.uk
- Login with your Email ID & Password
- Go to your Mailbox and Select Options in the top right hand corner
- Select ‘Upgrade to Outlook.com’ from the drop down list
You will then be taken to your mailbox using the new Metro User Interface.
Adding an Outlook.com Email Alias
If you wish to add another email ID to your account so that you can use NAME@Outlook.com then once you have activated your account and your using the new outlook.com service go to Options > More Email Settings > Create a Outlook Alias
This will then allow you to create a new Email ID using the outlook.com domain.
Making your new Outlook.com Alias your Primary Outbound Email ID
You can then make this your primary outbound ID by going to Options > More Email Settings > Sending/receiving emails from other accounts > Add another account to send email from.
Add your new outlook.com Email Alias, this will send you an authorization email, click on the URL and then go back into the same place to make this your default outbound email ID.
I hope that helps,
