About this project (courtesy of The Forum)

It’s been 10 years since Microsoft first made its mark on the North Dakota prairie.

Since then, the software giant has carved out an unmistakable identity for itself in the Fargo-Moorhead community and beyond. Nearly everyone knows someone who works at Microsoft.

But the company’s story here begins long before the Microsoft name took hold in Fargo. It begins with a little company called Great Plains Software and a big dreamer named Doug Burgum.

The Forum was granted unprecedented access inside Microsoft during the month of May to bring you this seven-part series – a window into the past, present and future of Microsoft in Fargo.
