IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility role

One of the prerequisites for installing the Management Reporter application service is to have the IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility role service installed on the server.  During installation of the server components, if the IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is not installed on the server, the installation will present an error and will not proceed.  Here is a quick walkthrough on how to turn on IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility if you run into this situation.

When advancing past the Customize Installation dialog, the install will verify if IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is installed.

If IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is not installed, you will see the following error message:

On the server where the Management Reporter application service is to be installed, open the Server Manager.  Navigate under "Roles" and select "Web Server (IIS)".  This will present a list of Role Services which have been installed.  Scroll down and look under the category "Management Tools".  It should state that IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is not installed.

Now, scroll back up towards the top of the list.  On the right hand side, there should be a link titled, "Add Role Services".  Click this link to display the Add Role Services dialog.

When the Add Role Services dialog displays, scroll down and select the role service for IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility.  Then, click Next.

On the last page, click Install.  The install should be complete relatively quick.

After the install has finished, you can verify in the Server Manager that IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility is Installed.  Now, try the Management Reporter installation again and you should be good to go.
