SQL Server 2005 Launch T -3 Days

The SQL Server 2005 Launch kick-off event is just a few days away. You can view all of the launch details, including venues and cities at www.microsoft.com/events/2005launchevents/default.mspx. I couldn’t be more excited for this launch. I joined Microsoft ~18 months ago and started working immediately on SS2K5. The road to release has been filled with numerous hours of fun, frustration, and lack of sleep. While there were times I probably wouldn’t have answered this way, the release was a total blast. Customers are what get me out of bed every morning at 6:30. I have so much passion for SQL Server and I wanted to do everything in my power to get it into the hands of customers as soon as possible.

I have no doubt SS2K5 will be a success in the market. The new capabilities, the level of quality, and the focus on security are all attributes that make this release something special.

If you’re an MSDN subscriber I encourage you to go download it. Between SQL and Visual Studio we’ve been breaking all of the previous MSDN download records. It’s truly amazing. If you’re one of the customers whose downloaded SQL or VS then I thank you. If you haven’t downloaded, I don’t know what you’re waiting for.

Thank you for your support. I’ll be at the launch event on 11/7 in San Francisco. If you’re there, come and say hi! I'm sure I'll be spending time in the lounge.

Next week I’ll blog about the launch event and then I’ll start talking about the new and exciting stuff I’m working on. We have some great stuff in the works that’s going to blow you away!

Cheers,
Dan
