Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 on Windows 2008...?
So now that Windows Server 2008 has been released what versions of Exchange Server can we run on it...? Well the earliest version that is supported to run on W2K8 is Exchange Server 2007 with Service Pack 1. It is not supported to run the RTM version of Exchange Server or indeed any previous version of Exchange on W2K8.
Some other key bits of information:
- If you are running Exchange Server RTM or SP1 on Windows Server 2003 it is supported to run this configuration against Windows 2008 domain controllers.
- It is possible and supported to upgrade Windows 2003 to 2008 in-place but it is not supported to upgrade Windows 2003 to 2008 in-place if it is running E2K7 RTM or SP1.
I understand there is some good documentation on the way to provides some guidance and best practise concerning moving to Windows 2008. I am guessing that best practise will be a combination of moving mailboxes and rolling upgrades or rebuilds and will need to be carefully planned, especially when you consider the improvements\changes in Windows 2008 clustering.
