Team Foundation Server Express

In my former life as an architect at Intel Corporation and a Microsoft MVP, I used to blog on the Intel Software Network about Microsoft Developer technologies.

On April 6th 2009 I wrote a blog post discussing the need for a Team Foundation Server Express Edition (original blog post) and provided a link to Microsoft Connect Feedback Item 430891 so that others could vote on the idea.

Brian Harry, Technical Fellow TFS, recently announced that with TFS “11” we’ll be introducing a new version of TFS, called Team Foundation Server Express, that includes the core developer features:

  • Source Code Control
  • Work Item Tracking
  • Build Automation
  • Agile Taskboard
  • and more…

I definitely agree with Brian that the best news is that it’s FREE for individuals and teams of up to 5 users. Read more about Team Foundation Server “11” Express in Brian Harry’s blog post entitled Coming Soon: TFS Express

  1. Alek Davis says:

So it will work with the Visual Studio Express family only? Hmmm… if this is the case, I'm not sure it would serve the original purpose. (I hope I'm wrong.)

No Alek, it'll work with every Visual Studio editions, including Visual Studio Express (which was not the case previously).

Doug, do you have tested it ? Because I have it installed, but when I try to add new user on a project, I get an error : TF246017: Team Foundation Server could not connect to the database. Verify that the server that is hosting the database is operational, and that network problems are not blocking communication with the server.

Did you face the same problems or did it work perfectly ?

    Thanks for your reply.
