Azure DocumentDB – Portal Update

As you’ll see in the coming weeks and months, we’ll be steadily improving the Azure DocumentDB service and portal experience.  Our September 10th update lights up the following new portal experiences through https://portal.azure.com.

Estimated Spend part

While DocumentDB billing information is available in the standard Azure portal billing experience, we’ve now added an Estimated Spend part to the Usage lens of the DocumentDB Account blade:

Support for Azure Role Based Access Control (RBAC)

Role based access control enables Owners to grant limited access to Azure Subscriptions, Resource Groups and individual Resources.  We’ve enabled RBAC support for DocumentDB Accounts via the Roles part in the new Access lens of the DocumentDB Account blade:

Note that users who are assigned to the Reader role will not have access to the Keys blade:

In addition, users in the Reader role can view the current Scale and Default Consistency settings, but do not have access to modify either of those values.

Add Database Functionality

The DocumentDB Account blade now has an Add Database command to let you quickly add databases from the Azure Portal:

Database Blade

We’ve added a new Database blade which, in its initial release, lets you easily view the Collections associated with a particular database:

While that’s it for now, we’d love to hear from you about the DocumentDB features and experiences you would find most valuable within the
Azure portal.  Please submit your suggestions on the Microsoft Azure DocumentDB feedback forum.

Enjoy!
