Installing Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2007 server

There has been some questions on the newsgroups with regards to installing Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2007 server. With *previous* versions of Exchange this was not possible due to an incompatibility with the outlook MAPI binaries, and the versions that shipped with Exchange. For more information on why you could not or should not have installed a previous version of Outlook on an Exchange server (Exchange 5.5 - 2003) please see Stephen Griffins blog: https://blogs.msdn.com/stephen_griffin/archive/2004/07/03/172257.aspx

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 no longer ships with the client side binaries. Now it is supported to install Outlook 2007 on the same computer on which you have installed Exchange 2007. For more information on this please see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/aa996719.aspx

While Outlook 2000 and earlier clients are compatible, they are not supported being installed on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. For more information about Outlook and Exchange compatibility, see Outlook and Exchange Server Compatibility.

As an administrator you should have no problems installing Outlook on an Exchange 2007 server. In order for you to run any tools like MFCMapi or OABInteg you will need to install either Outlook or the Standalone MAPI/CDO install in order to add the binaries so MAPI clients will have access to the Exchange Information Store.
