New Windows Vista Subsystem Names Abound - a marketers *** dream:-)

If you haven't had a chance to check out the MSDN Windows Vista Developer Center then see out https://msdn.microsoft.com/windowsvista, it's probably a 15 minute read to get a flavour of what to expect in the next version of Windows but for now here is a quick summary of new names...

• Avalon == Windows Presentation Foundation
• Indigo == Windows Communication Foundation
• AERO == AERO and stands for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open - well I never knew that:-)
• Direct3D10, also known as Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0 (WGF)
• XAML == XAML, phew
• Metro == XML Paper Specification or XPS
• ClickOnce == ClickOnce

Not too surprisingly "Windows Presentation Foundation" and "Windows Communication Foundation" have both gone to Beta 1 as well and you can download and run these components on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1.
