Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8

This is a quick and cheap way to get into Windows 8 store development.  Windows 8 is awesome. I am convinced that Win 8 is simply beautiful, and an easy way to get your apps in the store.  I see students getting multiple apps into the store PER WEEK!

So to get started with Windows 8 store apps you will need to use the free version of Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8.

There are other tools, but all of them except for YoYoGames requires that you at least use Visual Studio 2012 to connect with the Windows Store, but you can use the Express version to do so.

Oh, and what about that “Use for 30 days for free” statement?  Well all you have to do is use any Microsoft Account and register, this will get a 25 alpha numeric code that you use to register your product.

So give it a try, let me know how it is going.

That's all very good but it still costs $49/yr as an independent developer to register or $99/yr for a company.

I've got apps built but I'm not excited about a ~$50/yr fee just to publish when all stats from developers I talk to indicate less than stellar sales… (e.g. you won't make your money back!)

Now, if I could truly publish for free – let me/us know how we'd be all for it! Right now the only option is for US devs that get paid to submit apps.
