Mobile work item form general availability

Christopher Schleiden [MSFT]

We are very excited to announce the general availability of the mobile work item form and the mobile My work items page in Visual Studio Team Services. We now have a full end-to-end experience to find work items that matter to you, and view and edit them using a form optimized for mobile devices.

Mobile work item form

About five months ago we announced the very first preview of the mobile work item form. Since then we have received and listened to a lot of feedback and made many improvements to the work item form. Some notable features that we added:

Improved discussion experience supporting markdown

Preview showing the latest discussion comments front and center

Improved date/time picker

Mobile account homepage

Most of the feedback that we received was around navigating to other work items. Initially, we only provided a few entry points to our mobile experience via email notifications and forwarded links. Once you landed on a work item, there was no way to navigate to other work items that are relevant to you. We are happy to announce that with our latest deployment, we now provide a mobile version of the personalized account homepage, where you can see all your work items even on the go.

Our account homepage provides you with information about all the artifacts that matter to you. It lists your projects, your pull requests, and your work items. This personal nature makes it the ideal starting place for our mobile experience. With this first phase, we have enabled a mobile version of the My work items tab. It shows you work items that you are following, work items that are assigned to you, and work items that you recently visited or modified. You can reach it by opening https://youraccount.visualstudio.com on your phone.

Mobile navigation

To make the navigation from account homepage to work item form not a one-way flow, we have added a new mobile navigation control, that enables you to reach any other mobile-ready part of VSTS and also to get back to the full desktop site, if you want to interact with a hub that is not ready, yet.

Next Steps

While mobile work item form and account homepages were the first steps in our mobile journey, we certainly do not expect them to be our last. We have received a lot of feedback about mobile queries, code, pull requests, or backlogs. We are evaluating this feedback carefully and are looking forward to providing more mobile experiences in the future.
