March 21st MN User Group: Visual Studio 11 Beta Upgrade Pleasant Surprises and Lessons Learned

Charles Sterling

While at the TAP kick off I spoke with Dave about doing a presentation on Intertech’s lessons learned while upgrading to Visual Studio 11 Beta- and he has finally found time March 21st at the MN User Group…Should be a great meeting!

Session Abstract:

Dave Zimmerman has been a part of the TAP program which began with a presentation/question/answer session with the Visual Studio and TFS Product teams on the Microsoft Campus, followed by a dry-run and go-live migrations of pre-existing full-featured TFS 2008, TFS 2010 servers, and .Net (All version dev environments) and Java TeamPrise client upgrades.  All of this was done giving detailed feedback to the product team about hiccups and confusion and receiving continued support from the product team about workarounds and misunderstandings.  Though this is a huge subject, this session will cover the pleasant surprises about real world experience with new features you may or may not have heard about, and tips and tricks about getting around similar issues should you encounter them in your installation or upgrade process..

Dave Zimmerman is a principal consultant for Intertech with more than 17 years of consulting experience developing software in Microsoft Technologies. In addition to founding and leading the Visual Studio User Group, he has been managing numerous engagements built around Team Foundation Server where he is mentoring teams around best practices in development and management techniques with using the latest tools on real world software. His leadership in this area is well attested from his numerous speaking engagements around these topics which most recently involved training Microsoft and Microsoft Gold Partners on the Microsoft campus in Seattle and dating back to when he was featured on the panel of experts at the launch of TFS 1.0.
