Fargo is Flooding

David MeegoMy previous post on the situation in Fargo, North Dakota was a little tongue in cheek.

However, the flooding has already exceeded the maximum levels from the 1997 floods and is now forecast to reach 43 feet (13 metres) and the situation is very serious.

I have chatted via Messenger and email with some of my friends in Fargo and they said that the dykes and levees were up to the 41 - 42 feet mark and that if the peak of 43 feet is reached there will be some extensive flooding. There are already a number of homes lost.

This is affecting the entire community in Fargo/Moorhead and this includes the Microsoft Business Solutions/ Microsoft Dynamics teams based at the Fargo Microsoft Campus.  Even the Horizon and Vista buildings on the campus are at risk.

What this means that Microsoft staff are all out working to save as many houses as possible including their own.  Please be aware that response times to support cases and newsgroup posts might be affected. I know that other teams (including my team in the Asia Pacific region) are stepping up to assist.

Please add comments to this post to let the Fargo community know we are thinking of them and support them.

[Edit] Good news, over the weekend it looks like the Red River has crested and its levels are starting to drop.  Fargo/Moorhead is not out of trouble yet as the river is still 25 foot or more above its natural levels.  Also, it looks like the towns to the north which are down river are now facing the high levels.
