Universities across the world partner with Microsoft

Microsoft received some great help during the Visual Studio 2012 Developer Content localization cycle! We worked together with professors and students from engineering and computer science at 10 different universities to improve the translation quality of MSDN Visual Studio 2012 content in the following languages: Chinese (Traditional), Czech, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Russian and Turkish.

In a nutshell, we worked with professors to distribute pre-translated files to students who then post edited our machine translated content. While the idea sounds simple enough, the process provided us all with some interesting challenges. Overall, the project ended up being both a great success and a lot of fun! We’re therefore busy getting ready to do it again for our next major release.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll use this blog to post individual articles about each of the universities involved in the Visual Studio 2012 project – highlighting a few details about what it was like to work together, and recognizing the efforts of those who participated in this new partnership.

Check back in about a week for the first entry!
