Dev'Garten, Bensley and the CITC Gremlins!

Today Tim and I had our session at the CITC on workflow. I’ve been doing presentation at the CITC for a while now, and I can’t remember the last time a demo actually worked. Well, today Tim discovered how wicked the demo gods can be, and didn’t only stop his demo, the rendered his notebook incapable of switching to CRT output. So without the new Powerpoint deck (I fired up the old one on my notebook) and his code demos, we ploughed ahead. Sorry to all those who came along, I hope it went near to ok.

When I got back to the office, I was overjoyed to see more goodies had come from Intel for the Dev’garten. This time, it was in the form of a Bensley server! Now, this is on loan to the Dev’garten from my favourite friend at Intel, David E. Jones, and is going to be used to replace the virtual server instance of SQL Server 2005 so that all the application databases can run off SQL Server 2005 64bit edition on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition x64. Unfortunately I can’t say too much about the server, as it is kindly on loan through the Intel Early Access program, which is under NDA. But I can tell you, it’s fast, and I mean, bloody fast! I installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition x64 in about 12 minutes (no joke!), and in task manager, it shows 8 logical processors! Yikes!

Will do another update on the Dev’garten soon, but the next part of the process is to deploy Team Foundation Server RC in the next few days and publish that to the cloud by next week.
