Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Timebomb/Expiration Date

Since lots of people are curious about this, Dan Conley responded to an email from a customer and said that I could publish this publicly.

  1. Rob Risner says:

Is the timebomb just for Visual Studio or does the framework redistributable have it too?

  2. Rob, good question, the timebomb is for Visual Studio the tool, not the Framework redistributable.

  3. Before it is too late: can you display the ‘timebomb date’ for Beta 2 a bit more visible than for Beta 1? That is: display it at all…

The splash screen and the ‘about’ box would be logical places to display it… Displaying it in the splash screen will remind every user that there is a timebomb and when it is, each time they start Beta 2.

  4. Hey Luc,

I believe we already took a bug to add this to beta 2. As always, please feel free to send any other suggestions/bugs to:

  5. Joseph Finsterwald says:

All over the world beta 1 users are extremely pissed off. It should be standard procedure at Microsoft to notify customers of timebombs. Moreover, the upgrade path from beta 1 to beta 2 is buggy (due to registry issues) even after you completely uninstall beta 1.
