MacWorld is reporting a trojan horse disguised as a Mac Word 2004 demo. The slashdot article compares it to the recent Intego trojan horse scare, but really it’s not much like it. In the earlier case, a trojan horse was disguised as a non-executable so the user thought they were safe. In this case, the user knows they’re launching an executable. It’s just a plain ol’ trojan horse, and it’s the danger you face whenever you launch an executable from an untrusted source. There is no demo of Word 2004. If one is announced, grab it off Mactopia to be sure you are getting something that really comes from Microsoft.
