Get the Scoop on VSTS 2008 Database Edition GDR on Channel 9

Speaking of Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition (aka DBPro), Gert Drapers was interviewed for Channel 9 and talked about the new General Distribution Release (GDR) for DBPro that was announced this week at TechEd 2008.

You can read more about the features in Gert's blog. Highlights: SQL Server 2008 Support, better DB unit testing support, refactor engine improved, and no more need for a local copy of SQL Server to validate DB changes (huzzah!).

The GDR is available now for download but before you install it, make sure read the installation requirements. If you have DBPro Power Tools installed, uninstall it. AND you'll need to have Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 Beta installed. I've heard from a couple of people that the GDR might not check to make these two requirements are met before installing, so consider yourself warned. Also, since it requires a service pack beta, you might consider not trying this on your production development machine. Your call.

Excelsior!
